Documents for a trip to Montenegro

An independent vacation in Montenegro is very easy to carry out - to start with the fact that a visa for Russians is not needed if the duration of the trip does not exceed 30 days in a row... In total, you can stay no more than 90 days in half a year. All documents for a trip to Montenegro are only a passport, which must be valid 90 days after leaving the country, and that's it. Find out where else Russians can go without a visa.

If the period of stay is more than a month, you must make a visa to Montenegro in advance. The application is submitted no earlier than one month before the start of the trip. The package of documents is standard: a copy of a passport, a completed application form and an application, confirmation of a hotel reservation (or a lease agreement, or proof of ownership), a copy of an air ticket reservation, a certificate from work or an account statement (amount - at the rate of 20 € per day per person), two color photographs. Visa fee - 62 € for adults and 32 € for children under 14 years old.

If you are planning to live outside the hotel, be sure to sign up at the place of stay at the offices of the Tourism Organization of Montenegro within 24 hours. An exception is Budva, there for 72 hours. You can also do this at the Police Department in the department for work with foreigners. When staying in health resorts and hotels, the administration registers residents independently (fee - up to 0.80 € per day per person). If you do not register when leaving the country, you can be fined 200 €.

Insurance

Travel insurance policy is not included in the list of required documents for a trip to Montenegro, however, we advise you to insure your health. The policy costs from 300 rubles per week.

How to get there

The easiest way to get to Montenegro by plane... The cheapest flight is from Moscow: in the summer of 2021, tickets to Tivat and Podgorica cost from 10,000 rubles. It is more expensive to fly from St. Petersburg - from 13,000 rubles for a round-trip flight. From the regions, tickets cost from 20,000 rubles in both directions, so sometimes it is more profitable to buy a tour - it can cost even cheaper than a flight. Where to live

Due to reasonable prices for accommodation, independent travel to Montenegro is inexpensive. Montenegro is traditionally included in the ratings of cheap European countries along with Romania, Poland, Bulgaria and others.

Hotels. Book a hotel in Montenegro on your own using the Rumguru service. The cheapest is to live in small resort towns, but in the promoted resorts such as Budva and Sveti Stefan, housing is quite expensive. A standard hotel room in Bar - from 20 €, in Zabljak - from 14 €, in Ulcinj - from 16 €, in Sutomore - from 18 €.

Private accommodation. The resorts of Montenegro have a large selection of apartments, houses and villas - ideal for independent travelers, as they have a kitchen. We recommend booking them on Airbnb. Apartments or studio in Budva can be found from 30 €, in the resort of Sveti Stefan - from 40 €.

Note - when it comes to housing in Sveti Stefan, I mean the village of the same name near the island. Accommodation directly on the island of Sveti Stefan is expensive (from 500-700 € per day), since the island itself is one luxury hotel Aman Resorts.

Food prices

For an inexpensive trip to Montenegro, avoid the promoted tourist restaurants and cafes. Look for local establishments. A dish in an inexpensive restaurant costs from 5 €, a three-course dinner for two in a restaurant will cost 40 € more. Local beer in the bar (0.5 l) - from 2.20 €, a cup of cappuccino - on average 1.75 €.

If you rent an apartment with a kitchen and cook on your own, then eating in Montenegro can be quite budgetary.

In the article 5 of the cheapest countries in Europe, we calculated that you can spend about 45 € per person per day in Montenegro - this is accommodation in an inexpensive hotel, meals in restaurants for locals and transportation costs.

What to see

The country of canyons is full of sights - you need to try hard to visit as many places as possible during an independent trip to Montenegro.

The Budva Riviera is called the pearl of Montenegro - a beautiful stretch of coastline with excellent beaches from Budva to Petrovac. This is where tourists most often come. The most popular resorts are Sveti Stefan and Budva.

Another bright point of attraction for tourists is the picturesque bay of Boka Kotorska, on the shores of which the resorts of Tivat, Kotor, Igalo, Perast and Herceg Novi are located. The bay is in no way inferior in beauty to the Budva Riviera, and sometimes even surpasses. It is quiet and peaceful there, and it is good to relax with children.

Also, while on vacation in Montenegro, we advise you to go to Lake Skadar, see the canyons of the rivers, the national parks of Durmitor and Biogradska Gora.
