On the island of Rhodes, almost every settlement is a full-fledged resort with a wide range of leisure activities. They are close to each other, so visiting several in one vacation is quite a feasible task. Many beaches are marked with the Blue Flag, but the rest are clean. It is worth considering the terrain when choosing a place for vacation: the winds are typical for the villages and towns of Rhodes, which is good for windsurfers, but may not like the rest of the guests of the island.

For a more active pastime, it is worth going to the capital of the region and to Lindos. And the traditional way of life of the Greeks will be better shown by Archangelos and Kalathos. From several resorts it is convenient to get to the "Valley of the Butterflies" - the main natural attraction of the island.

The main resorts of the island of Rhodes

List of the most interesting and popular beach destinations in Rhodes.

Rhodes

The capital of the island of the same name and its most popular resort. Hotels are open both in the Old Town and directly at the beaches. They provide a full range of services, including access to spas and fitness centers. Taverns, shops and markets provide guests with everything they need, and even with a Greek flavor. The local acropolis is the second largest after the Athenian one. Temples, including the Church of the Virgin Mary, also attract attention. There are not many beaches, and they are filled with vacationers.

Faliraki

The main beach of the resort - "Golden" - is the most comfortable in the north, and in the south there are rocky areas. In addition, nudists are located on its very outskirts. A secluded getaway is available in small coves. And the more active one - in the water amusement park. An evening or even a night is best spent on Erma Street, which is called "Bar Street" for the abundance of drinking and entertainment facilities.

Ialyssos

Another name is Trianda. The main beach is pebbly, awarded the Blue Flag. The water is cooler than most neighboring resorts, gusty winds blow. On Mount Filerimos, ancient monuments have been preserved - the temples of Athena and Zeus. The ascent there is difficult and the locals call it “the way to Golgotha”. The city has a Byzantine-style temple and mansions that once belonged to Greek merchants.

Afandou

One of the oldest villages on the island has recently become a high-end resort. The buildings are dense, the streets are decorated with tall trees, which contrasts with the lack of abundant vegetation on the outskirts. Rhodes' flat and longest beach stretches against the backdrop of mountain peaks. It is difficult for tourists to fill it even in high season. The sea is deep, water sports are represented by a wide range. There is a golf course nearby.

Pefkos

It took the fishing village about 30 years to turn into a comfortable western resort. The area is hilly, covered with dense forests. The main beach is awarded the Blue Flag, there are places on the coast for "wild" recreation. Hotels offer rooms for every budget. The shops and taverns are open all week, and the large markets are open on certain days. It is also worth going up to the Acropolis and seeing the old city frescoes.

Gennadi

The main distinguishing feature of the resort is its impressive-sized snow-white walls, which enclose buildings and districts. The reason for their appearance is the attacks of pirates in the past. Most of Gennadi's beaches are covered with sand. The Green Island with its red lighthouse, the folklore museum and the medieval castle in Asklipio are worth visiting. National restaurants offer guests pasta, moussaka and ouzo.

Kolymbia

Located between Lindos and Rhodes. The potential of the resort has not yet been fully realized. At the same time, fashionable chains have already built their hotels here. The beaches are covered with special decks: you can get to the sea along them without stepping on the hot sand. Sun loungers and umbrellas stand close to the water itself. It is quiet in Kolimbia, but entertainment in neighboring cities can be reached in half an hour.

Kiotari

A small village in the southeast of the island boasts peace and quiet. It's hard to find an open establishment by midnight. But the nature around is conducive to walking long walks and organizing picnics in the fresh air. The beaches are narrow and you rarely see all the sun loungers busy. Water sports are one of the few activities in Kiotari. To travel to the sights, you will have to rent a car.

Lachania

The resort bypasses the main tourist routes. Guests are greeted by a working windmill right at the entrance. Tourists prefer to rent villas, and the only five-star hotel is located near Cape Prasonisi. Part of the beach is a protected area where any construction work is prohibited. There is a small showroom. And taverns are hidden in the shade of pomegranate and orange trees, as well as plane trees.

Lardos

Residential areas come very close to the water. The local beach is one of the most popular in the whole of Rhodes. He receives the Blue Flag every year. Lardos provides a wide range of additional services: from medical assistance to car rental. A spring gushes from the fountain in the central square. Small cafes offer coffee, board games, and live music or karaoke in the evenings.

Haraki

The small town took refuge in a crescent-shaped bay. Cafes and taverns are concentrated along the coast. The basis of their menu is fresh catch. The beach is divided into two sections: pebble and sand. Active water recreation is represented by diving, water skiing and windsurfing. Entry into the water is convenient, and near the coast - shallow water. This makes Haraki, among other things, a good place to stay with small children.

Stegna

The village is conveniently located for those who plan to travel by rented car: roads diverge in different directions leading to Archangelos, Rhodes and other resorts of the island. The sea is warm and transparent, without jellyfish and algae, there are practically no waves. The choice of hotels is large, although they are far from maximum comfort. Stegna has a beautiful view from above, from a serpentine path. The taverns are hospitable, there is live singing and without it.

Koskin

Spreads on the east coast, 7 km from Rhodes. The village is divided into two parts: the old town is located far from the water, and the more modern resort area is right on the shore. A labyrinth of cobbled narrow streets leading to a sandy beach is a typical scene for Koskinou. Among the architectural landmarks is the Traditional House. Taverns and bars are open 24 hours a day.

Kallithea

The village is located on a hill, and the descent to the sea passes through a steep staircase. Several beaches belong to hotels, but there are also places to relax for savages. The coastal zone is wide, with eucalyptus trees, coniferous forests and palms growing on the sides. The choice of dishes in local taverns is varied, and usually one is enough to eat, so large portions are here. Only establishments do not open earlier than noon.

Kremasti

Small in size, but the proximity of the airport and sufficient infrastructure for a comfortable stay make the resort popular with tourists. The aromas of vanilla are in the air, and the odorous resins attract butterflies. For this reason, a natural park has been organized nearby, which is called the "Valley of the Butterflies". The deep sea and windy weather during the high season attract lovers of active pastime on the water.

Theologos

From here to the capital of Rhodes is about 20 km. The construction of Tholos is typical for Greek resorts: a series of hotels border on the beach area, and the Old Town - narrow streets with rare architectural sights. One of the iconic buildings is the Church of St. Spyridon with a high bell tower. The famous "Valley of the Butterflies" is located nearby. Walking around is an opportunity to relax after windsurfing or diving.

Kalaphos

The village is famous for its traditional Greek way of life. It is located on the road leading to Lindos, so visiting here for a change is a common thing for tourists. Kalathos Beach is considered one of the quietest and least crowded on the island. At the same time, all the services necessary for recreation are available. The coastal area is covered with a mixture of pebbles and sand. The sea is heterogeneous: near the coast there are both shallow water and deep places where you can dive.

Ixia

Located on the west coast. The winds and terrain features make Ischia a windsurfer's paradise. The beaches of the resort are natural spas: the pebbles are heated to 40 ° C, which has a beneficial effect on the vessels. In the evening, coastal restaurants lure visitors with live music, and bonfires are lit on the beaches. At the same time, the city cannot be called a partying city: it is also comfortable for lovers of silence to relax here.

Archangelos

A picturesque village that speaks a special dialect. The snow-white buildings typical of the island are painted in different colors. Here they keep the traditions of their ancestors, make leather goods, cook according to old recipes and organize bright national holidays. The county is surrounded by orange, lemon and olive plantations, as well as vineyards. When staying elsewhere in Rhodes, it is worth taking the time to visit Archangelos.
