When to go to Prague
An important question is when to go to the capital of the Czech Republic. Optimal weather for walking is late spring, early and late summer, and early autumn. In the spring everything blooms beautifully, in the fall everything turns beautifully yellow. It's too hot in summer and there are a lot of tourists. Prague is also good during the winter holidays: you will see Christmas markets, New Year's illumination and snow, if you're lucky.
We went to Prague at the end of November. The weather was lucky: it was sunny and clear, but cold. If you dress warmly and have a dry season, you can have a great time even during the low season.

Weekend tours from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Prague cost from 30 thousand rubles to the most modest hotels - that is, flying to the Czech Republic for 2-3 days can be inexpensive. Moreover, prices in high and low seasons hardly differ. Prices for weekend tours to Prague departing from St. Petersburg are only 5 thousand higher than from the capital.

If you decide to go to the Czech Republic for the weekend on your own, it is better to fly directly by plane - it is fast, but more expensive. A direct flight to Prague from Moscow for 3 days costs from 14 thousand rubles, the flight time is about 3 hours. Flights with transfers are cheaper - from 10 thousand rubles, but you will spend 12 hours or more on the way.
It is a little more expensive to fly from St. Petersburg: with a transfer - from 13 thousand (on the way from 4 hours), and a direct flight costs from 16 thousand rubles.
Prices for hotels in Prague
Decided to go to the Czech Republic for the weekend - good, but first of all, take care of the hotel. Book them several months in advance, because in summer prices go up a lot and there are few places left.
In the center during the high season, budget hotels cost from 35 euros, 3 * - from 40 euros. A bed in a hostel - from 8 euros, apartments on Airbnb in the center or near it cost 45-80 euros.
What to see and do on a weekend in Prague
Sights
If this is your first trip to Prague, go to the top places - here is the program for 2-3 days:
- look at the Old Town Square;
- visit Charles Bridge at dawn;
- explore Prague Castle and Hradcany;
- stroll through the Old Town and the Jewish Quarter.
You yourself understand how many people will be in these places, and even on weekends. We recommend you come there as early as possible.
If this is not your first weekend in Prague, we advise you to pay attention to less popular places, details, streets, temples.
Observation platforms. Romantics and photographers should definitely visit. There are many lookouts, the views are gorgeous. Good sites in Prague Castle, Vysehrad, Petrin, gardens and parks.
Museums. There are both classical - for example, the National Museum or the Mucha Museum - and non-traditional: the KGB Museum, the Museum of Sex. Free museums in Prague →
Streets and houses. They are good in Mala Strana: the streets are narrow, crooked, beautiful, and the houses are colorful.
Ordinary residential areas. This is our favorite topic - walking in ordinary neighborhoods where there are no tourists and watching. Calmness, silence, excellent pubs and beautiful houses - in the districts of Zizkov, Nove Mesto, Vinohrady.
Other cities. The field of noisy Prague is a pleasure to go for a day to Kutna Hora, Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary, Loket, Krusovice or another city in the Czech Republic. For example, I have the most vivid memory of my entire trip to the Czech Republic - it was a trip to Kutná Hora.

In the evening, you have visited all the planned attractions and are very tired. What to do on a weekend in Prague, how to relax?
Have a beer and eat a shank. In the evenings, tourists and locals alike find themselves in the many pubs. We also settled in the favorite U Járy pub in Zizkov. Cozy, inexpensive and tasty.
Visit a restaurant. Czechs love to eat, and some tourists even come to the city solely for the sake of food. Choose a national restaurant according to reviews and enjoy. Be warned: the portions are large.
Listen to the concert. Touch the beauty! The city's churches and cathedrals have excellent acoustics, and they often host classical music concerts. I read that the best acoustics are in the Basilica of St. George (Bazilika svatého Jiří) in Prague Castle, as the hall is practically empty. We did not attend the concert and now we regret it.
Go to the theater. In Prague, everywhere we met signs divadlo - theater. The most popular among tourists are black theaters, or theaters of light and shadow.
Our tips and reviews of tourists
One gets the impression that Russians' love for the Czech capital is pathological and inherent in the genetic level. No matter how much we read the reviews of tourists, they are always enthusiastic: everyone confesses their love to the city and promises loyalty to the grave. We did not experience such enthusiasm (well, perhaps only about the cuisine and beer), since we had high expectations. In general, I liked the city.
Our Tips for those who are going to Prague for the weekend:
- Choose a hotel closer to the center so as not to waste time traveling.
- Book weekend tours, hotels and tickets to Prague in advance - demand is high.
- 2 or 3 days to Prague is very little, so take your time to cover all the sights. Select the most interesting and visit them thoughtfully, and see the rest on your next trip.
- Wear comfortable shoes with or without low heels.
- If you are traveling to the Czech Republic out of season, consider your wardrobe. Waterproof and windproof clothing and shoes, an umbrella, a hat and gloves are important. In a light coat and without a hat in November, like me, you don't need to walk.
- Popular tourist spots are best visited early in the morning.
