What is the most profitable vacation in the Dominican Republic: on your own or on a tour? Let's count and compare!

Holidays in popular resorts

Let's calculate how much an independent trip to the most popular resort in the Dominican Republic - Punta Cana - costs. Expenses for two:

  • round-trip flights - from 76 000 ₽
  • airport tax upon arrival - 1 200 ₽ ($ 10 per person)
  • 4 * hotel for 10 nights AI - 84 000 ₽
  • taxi from the airport to Punta Cana and back - 3 700 ₽.

The total cost of an independent vacation in the Dominican Republic is 165 000 ₽ for two for 10 days from Moscow.

Under the same conditions, tours to the Dominican Republic on Level.Travel and Travelata cost 175 000 ₽... As you can see, the difference is small: an independent vacation is a little cheaper, but you have to dock everything and book it yourself.

Small resorts

If you want to travel to the Dominican Republic for a cheaper price, choose not popular resorts, but small villages - for example, Bayahibe. Let's see how much an independent trip there costs:

  • round-trip flights - from 76 000 ₽
  • airport tax upon arrival - 1 200 ₽ ($ 10 per person)
  • 4 * hotel for 10 nights AI - 55 000 ₽
  • taxi from Punta Cana airport to Bayahibe and back - 5 500 ₽.

It turns out 137 700 ₽ for two for 10 days from Moscow. And tours on Level.Travel and Travelata cost from 145 000 ₽... The difference is also small.

Conclusions: how to have a better and cheaper vacation

Which resort to choose. Both package and independent holidays in a small resort in the Dominican Republic are cheaper than in a well-promoted resort. Tourists who adore the Dominican Republic and fly there every year confidently declare that there is no need to go to Punta Cana and other large resorts at all. We agree with them - small resorts are definitely better. We rested in Bayahibe and on the Samana Peninsula: there are few people, the hotels are excellent, huge half-empty or completely wild beaches - beauty! Recommended!

Is it cheaper to go to the Dominican Republic on your own? Yes, a little cheaper, but the savings are so tiny they should be neglected if you want to really relax at one resort. Another thing is if you are going to travel all over the country - most likely, an independent vacation will be even more expensive than a tour, but you will save on excursions, which are insanely expensive in the Dominican Republic.

Our experience... We arrived in the Dominican Republic on a cruise ship from Europe. We rested in an all-inclusive hotel in Bayahibe, rented a car and drove to Samana, looked at the beaches and a waterfall there, and then visited Santo Domingo. For 9 days of independent rest and travel in the Dominican Republic, we spent 1000 $ for two - everything in this budget except tickets.
