Holidays in Indonesia, probably every tourist who has been here, will be remembered for a lifetime. What fascinates most of all in this country from all of Asia is food, or rather, if you want to fully experience the Asian world, traditions and culture, then you should definitely try to live and eat like an ordinary person who lives here, what came of this I will tell in a small travel review to Indonesia.

Of course, you should start by booking travel packages and air tickets. I booked flights through the Aviasales service (the search form is located below), but I found the hotel through the Hotels combined service (the search form below), I want to say that the hotel booking service is the only service with such a wide hotel base in Asian countries, it is here what to choose, believe me. And by the way, here we will talk most of all about food and prices in Indonesia, because everything about this wonderful world cannot be contained in just one statement, so subscribe to updates and you will always be aware of all the information. So, I will start my review of the holiday in Indonesia.

About food and prices in Indonesia

All street food is called “warung” by the locals. I can't say what I really liked about Varung, on the contrary, at first all this caused some concern. Firstly, all this looks very clean, the food was sold in bags and reusable plates, and secondly, Indonesians love to eat everywhere and in any position: they do not necessarily need a table to sit at. A chair near the place where food is prepared - that's the whole “warung”. Thirdly, in such eateries they eat with their hands. But all this was only the first impression of Indonesia, after half a month of rest in Indonesia, I fell in love with street food, why? The most important reason is its availability!

At every step you are offered a huge number of dishes, and it seemed to me after several trips to restaurants that street food is much tastier and cheaper than restaurant food. Having lived here, you can already safely know where the food is delicious, and where it is even tastier, with this you will not have any problems on vacation in Indonesia, that's for sure! Personally, I noted for myself those places where they cooked right in front of me, moreover, you can always ask to put more or less ingredients, and, unlike in Russia, they will not take more money from you for this.

The second reason why I recommend you to eat on the street is the prices for food in Indonesia, it is much cheaper to eat on the street than to go and spend money in expensive restaurants where you will be fed the same. To summarize, food prices are approximately 30 rubles for a good lunch.

Moreover, if you think that the local - the poor stratum of the population - eats in the warungs, then you are deeply mistaken, often executive class cars drive up to such places and well-dressed people come to dine.

What food in Indonesia consists of

When it comes to food, people in Indonesia eat a lot of vegetables and chicken. Rice here is like our bread. The dishes are not very fatty, mostly the food is stewed or served in the form of a soup. Almost all Indonesians love noodles: egg, rice, starch. Many dishes include fresh vegetables and chips. Of the meat, they prefer chicken, and they also cannot do without beef and lamb. Since the country is Muslim, you will not find pork here!

You can talk about food from Asian countries for hours and days on end, for example, I advise you to read about bugs and spiders from Thailand, which I tried on my own experience. Yes, in Thailand I happened to try real protein food or real Asian cuisine.

The distinction of cuisine in Indonesia

In Indonesia, the question is very popular among the local population: "Where are you from?" In theory, the answer should be “From Indonesia”. But the locals will name the province where they come from, even if they haven't lived there for many years. For them, belonging to their province is a great pride. Each administrative region has its own national costume, traditions, customs and even language. Naturally, the kitchen is different too. Therefore, first of all, all dishes are divided according to geography. I will tell you about only one species, but out of 34 in general, according to the number of provinces. This is a restaurant that serves Padang Food.

The interior is made in the style of the national dwelling of the people of the Padang province. It is necessarily colorfully decorated on the outside, but everything is simple inside. The cuisine of this restaurant is distinguished by a wide variety of sauces. Buffet system - come and take what you need. All dishes are ready-made. It seems to me that it is in this province that boiled eggs with different sauces are loved.

After you have eaten, you need to pay. And here it is a complete mystery to me: the owner remembers exactly what you put on your plate, despite the fact that the restaurant is full of people, and it is very difficult to keep track of everyone. He will count every sauce, side dish, vegetables ... but the price here is not very high, on average you can eat for 90 rubles. So the prices in Indonesia are more than real!

Food on wheels

Believe it or not, food on wheels is very well developed here. This phenomenon surprised me most of all, as I already wrote, Indonesians love to eat, but the bustle of the city and hours of traffic jams ... And here an excellent solution is food on wheels. Local merchants carry ready-made food on carts, it is enough to stretch money out of the car, and something tasty will be wrapped up immediately.

If you are a pedestrian, the seller will even offer you a folding chair to sit down and eat in peace. Dishes at these mobile cafes are also delicious and varied. Moreover, the price of such dishes is even lower than in warungs, a portion of a good dinner will cost you 40 rubles. And I will make a reservation, food may not always be on wheels, and sellers also walk with huge baskets.

Indonesia night market

The traditional market opens at night. Why at night? Because it is hot during the day and the goods deteriorate quickly! By 11 o'clock in the evening, traders block the road along which they traveled in the afternoon and this place turns into a bazaar. Work is in full swing: vegetables are peeled, packaged, sold. All sellers here usually do not like to bargain, because prices are not overstated, and even so there is nowhere cheaper. The choice at the bazaar is huge, you can find any fruit and vegetable, everything from meat is the freshest, because they are snapped up instantly.

What do they drink in Indonesia

Rest in Indonesia is, first of all, an abundant drink! It is very hot here, so drinking is a prerequisite for existence. People drink here mainly water, tea, coffee. Hot water quickly quenches thirst, and cold is more pleasant to drink when the sun is 'hot'. Lemon is often added to a variety of drinks. Drinks can be found and bought here at every turn. There are merchants who specially carry a variety of fruit drinks, lemonades, tea.

Indonesia is a leading country in the supply of coffee, it is grown here and is very fond of drinking. Moreover, for the local population, this drink is in no way invigorating. There is a huge selection of coffees and their preparation methods. The price for a mug of coffee will be 15 rubles in a regular coffee shop.

The review about Indonesia and food seemed to be scientific, based on tracking the life of Indonesians throughout the rest. For that, the real facts are obtained in this way. That's it, the rest in Indonesia is not over yet, in the following articles I will talk about booking hotels in Indonesia, where it is cheaper to stay and I will reveal secrets to other questions that worry tourists, subscribe!
